The Voice of Twos
The Hebrew people believe that scripture is balanced, offering a unique opportunity to perceive Adonai’s voice. In perfect harmony, written scripture contains multiple sets of two, where two sides balance one another. Scripture is written in two fires. It is written by two hands. Scripture also offers two promises for Bible readers.
First, Moses records the Torah as two fires. Words of scripture are written as fiery black letters superimposed upon white fire since a fiery law issues from Elohim’s hand (Deuteronomy 33:2). Sacred words of scripture are as powerful as fiery black letters. But, His law does not rest upon a blank page. The Almighty’s fiery words rest upon white fire, signifying that even the space surrounding His words is charged with a refining, purifying fire (Psalm 66:10; 1 Peter 1:7). The two fires recall the fire in the wilderness which manifested upon Mount Sinai when He gave the words of Torah.
Second, scripture is written with the Almighty’s two hands working as one. The words come from the Almighty’s left hand which holds power and justice, and His right hand which holds mercy. The “two hands” of scripture are a union of right and left, a combination of His justice tempered with His mercy.
Third, two promises await those who read scripture and listen for the voice of Adonai. Two promises are found in the Book of Proverbs. By studying scripture and gaining the wisdom which it offers, length of days are found in the right hand of scripture. Riches and honor are found in the left hand of scripture (Proverbs 3:16).
