It's Not About the Election
A record one in four Americans admit arguing with a family member, friend, or co-worker about the presidential election taking place today.
The dynamics of this election have created divisiveness on a level never before seen in a national election. The hotly debated issues have kindled fires of anger and mistrust on every side.
Is it possible, however, that today is not about electing a new American President? Perhaps, in God’s divine plan, today is about you and me. If we are followers of Yeshua (Jesus), we are called to be a Light.
"You are the light of the world. You cannot hide a city that has been built upon a mountain. And they do not light a lamp and set it under a basket, but on a lampstand (menorah), and it gives light to all those who are in the house. Thus your light will shine before the children of men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 5:14-16)."
Yeshua directs His followers to be the Light of the World in Matthew 5:14-16. Our challenge is to remain the Light of the World no matter who is elected president on November 8, 2016.
One secret of the Menorah at the Temple was that one of its seven lamps burned miraculously, without additional oil. This traditional account can inspire us to shine brighter and longer, even when we struggle with negative emotions.
Let’s choose to be a brightly shining lamp on God’s great Lampstand, a flickering light on an immense Menorah of believers. With this choice, we prepare the world for the Messiah’s return.
